Yahoo! เริ่มทยอยปิดบริการที่ไม่ได้รับความนิยมหรือมีคนใช้น้อยจำนวน 6 รายการ โดยบริการที่โดนปิดจะไม่สามารถเข้าใช้ได้ในวันที่ 1 เมษายนเป็นต้นไป

Jay Rossiter ซึ่งเป็น Executive Vice President, Platform กล่าวว่า "เพื่อให้การพัฒนา Yahoo! เป็นไปตามเป้าหมายของเรา การมุ่งพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์หลักของเราเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญ และเราจะทำทุกอย่างที่เราทำให้ดีที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้"

สำหรับบริการที่ถูกปิดในครั้งนี้ได้แก่ Avatars, App Search, Sports IQ, Clues, Updates API, และ BlackBerry App โดยที่ BlackBerry App จะสามารถใช้งานต่อได้ แต่ไม่ได้รับการสนับสนุนจากบริษัทเพิ่มเติม – TechCrunch

ในปีนี้ Yahoo! ระบุข้อความเกี่ยวกับบริษัทในรายงาน 10–K ที่ส่งให้กับหน่วยงานของสหรัฐของว่า

“Yahoo! Inc., together with its consolidated subsidiaries (‘Yahoo!,’ the ‘Company,’ ‘we,’ or ‘us’), is a global technology company focused on making the world’s daily habits inspiring and entertaining.”

ต่างจากปีก่อนๆ ที่ Yahoo! เขียนในรายงานว่า

Yahoo! Inc., together with its consolidated subsidiaries (‘Yahoo!,’ the ‘Company,’ ‘we,’ or ‘us’), is a premier digital media company.”

“Yahoo! Inc., together with its consolidated subsidiaries (‘Yahoo!,’ the ‘Company,’ ‘we,’ or ‘us’), attracts hundreds of millions of users every month through its innovative technology and engaging content and services, making it one of the most trafficked Internet destinations and a world class online media company.”

นั่นหมายถึง Yahoo! เริ่มเปลี่ยนเป้าหมายของบริษัทจากบริษัทด้านความบันเทิง มาเป็นบริษัทด้านเทคโนโลยีความบันเทิง ทั้งนี้คาดว่าการเปลี่ยนแปลงครั้งนี้นั้นเพื่อให้ Yahoo! สามารถอยู่ในสงคราม Portal Web และ Search Engine ได้นานที่สุด – TechCrunch, เอกสาร 10–K ของ Yahoo!

สิ่งที่ต้องรอดูจากนี้ก็คือ Marissa Mayer ซึ่งเป็น CEO คนใหม่ของ Yahoo! จะเปลี่ยนแนวทางการทำงานของบริษัทเพิ่มเติมหรือไม่ครับ
