อินเทลประกาศบนหน้าเว็บ ว่าปรับสถานะของจีพียูออนบอร์ดรุ่นเก่าๆ (ชื่ออย่างเป็นทางการคือ Intel Graphic "Gen9" แต่ใช้กับซีพียู Core รุ่นเก่านับตั้งแต่ Gen 6-10 รวมถึง Celeron, Pentium, Atom ยุคเดียวกัน) เป็น legacy software support

ความหมายคือ ไดรเวอร์ของจีพียูเหล่านี้ได้ยังได้อัพเดตต่อ แต่มีเฉพาะการแก้บั๊กสำคัญและช่องโหว่ความปลอดภัยเท่านั้น ไม่มีการออกไดรเวอร์ที่มีฟีเจอร์ใหม่ๆ หรือรองรับเกมที่ออกใหม่ตั้งแต่วันแรก (Day0 Game Support) อีกแล้ว โดยไดรเวอร์จะเปลี่ยนรอบการอัพเดตมาเป็นรายไตรมาสแทน

ไดรเวอร์ของจีพียูรุ่นเก่าจะยังอยู่ในชุดแพ็กเกจไดรเวอร์จีพียูมาตรฐานของอินเทล (Intel Graphics Driver ที่อยู่บนหน้าเว็บ) แต่ในไฟล์แพ็กเกจจะแยกไดรเวอร์เป็น 2 กลุ่มคือ จีพียูเก่า (ตามซีพียู Gen 6-10) และจีพียูใหม่ (ตามซีพียู Gen 11 ขึ้นไป)

การปรับสถานะของฮาร์ดแวร์รุ่นเก่าให้ซัพพอร์ตน้อยลงคงเป็นเรื่องปกติของวงการ เพียงแต่รอบนี้อินเทลปรับสถานะรวดเดียว 5 Gen ซีพียู จึงส่งผลกระทบต่อผู้ใช้เป็นจำนวนมาก รายชื่อซีพียูที่ได้รับผลกระทบได้แก่

• Intel Pentium® and Celeron® processor family (Codename Gemini Lake)
• 7th Generation Intel® Core® processors, related Pentium®/Celeron® processors, and Intel® Xeon® processors, with Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics 640, 650 and Intel® HD Graphics 610, 615, 620, 630, P630 (Codename Kaby Lake)
