ไมโครซอฟท์เตือนนักพัฒนาแอพพลิเคชั่นบน Windows Server ว่าใน Windows Server 8 การติดตั้ง GUI จะไม่ใช่สิ่งที่จำเป็นเสมอไป โดย Windows Server 8 นั้นผู้ดูแลระบบมีสิทธิจะถอดชิ้นส่วนต่างๆ เช่น ระบบ GUI, MMC, หรือ Internet Explorer ออกได้ตลอดเวลา

ไมโครซอฟท์เตรียมเส้นทางการพอร์ตแอพพลิเคชั่นด้วยการใส่ Minimal Server Interface ไว้ใน Windows Server 8 โดยหลักๆ แล้วมันคือ Windows Server แบบเดิมๆ ที่ไม่มี Internet Explorer หรือส่วนเสริมอื่นๆ ที่ใช้สำหรับเดสก์ทอป รวมไปถึงระบบมัลติมีเดียทั้งหมด เพื่อให้แอพพลิเคชั่นบนเซิร์ฟเวอร์ที่ต้องการ GUI นั้นยังทำงานต่อไปได้ แต่ระบบ snap-in ที่ใช้ผ่าน MMC.exe นั้นจะถูกแยกเป็นส่วนเสริมให้ผู้ดูแลระบบเลือกติดตั้งเอง

ไมโครซอฟท์แนะนำให้นักพัฒนาไปใช้งาน PowerShell เป็นส่วนหลักในการควบคุมแอพพลิเคชั่นแทนการใช้ GUI เพราะมันสามารถทำงานได้โดยไม่ต้องการหน้าจอกราฟิก และสามารถควบคุมเครื่องจำนวนมากได้จากระยะไกล ทำให้สะดวกในการติดตั้งแอพพลิเคชั่นในกลุ่มเมฆกว่ามาก

ในวาระนี้ก็ "ขอต้อนรับสู่ command line" แทนผู้ใช้ลินุกซ์ทุกคนครับ

ไม่น่าจะใช่สุดท้าย นะ แต่น่าจะเป็นทางเลือกมากกว่า

ส่วนบนกลุ่มเมข ผมว่าน่าจะใช้วิธีคน โทรลผ่าน web admin gui โดยใช้พอทพิเศษมากกว่า

แอบสงสัยครับ ที่จริงแล้ว Windows Azure คือ Linux หรือ Unix หรือเปล่า

จากคนไม่รู้เลยครับ แค่อ่านข่าว เห็นว่า ใช้ SUPPORT PHP (2009) ต่อมา support .net(2010) และก็เห็นว่าในนี้ว่า SQL ก็จะเน้นไปที่ Apache Hadoop-based ก็เลยสงสัยว่าจริงๆแล้วมันคือ Unix ของ Microsoft หรือเปล่า

สรุป GUI ไม่มีให้แล้ว ก็ไม่ต่างกัน linux งั้นใช้ linux ไปเลยไม่ง่ายกว่าเหรอ คนใช้ windows server เกินกว่าครึ่งไม่เป็น linux และถนัด คลิ๊กเม้าท์ เอา ไม่ใช่เรอะ

ฝั่ง App Dev ครับ ฝั่ง App Dev ตัว Windows รุ่น Command Line รุ่นปัจจุบัน 2008 ก็มีเหมือนกันครับ (Core Edition) ซึ่งผู้ติดตั้งสามารถเลือกลงได้ครับ ว่าจะลง Core หรือ GUI

ps. สรุปเอาเองหรือเปล่าครับว่าคนใช้ Widows Server ใช้ Linux ไม่เป็น ผมเองใช้ทั้ง Windows Server, Linux และ Unix (Solaris)

เอาหน้าตาการ config แบบโปรแกรม for dos ก็หน้าจะ OK แล้วนะครับ เหมือนโปรแกรมที่พัฒนาด้วย foxpro for dos ส่วนการ config อื่นๆ เช่น AD ก็ผ่านหน้า Web แทน
