Responsibilities
Common Platform (Eikon) is a multiyear program to transform the Thomson Reuters Markets business, by delivering compelling and customer driven products over a single, flexible and robust platform, with first phase RRG (Ready for Revenue Generation) in September 2010. The program is delivering the next generation suite of desktop products for Sales & Trading and Investment & Advisory customers.
These roles reside within the Common Platform Technology Operations team, whose aim is to successfully manage the 5 current Common Platform environments globally, and provide the best overall global service. This role is focused on implementation planning activities within that team.
Key Responsibilities
Providing Technical Leadership for the Implementation of new and upgraded IT Infrastructure with standard platforms on Network/Servers Technologies, carried out in compliance with best practices:
1.) Release Management: Provide technical oversight and activities planning for all releases so that they meet the operational requirements including reliability, operability, 24x7 operation and automation, both during installation and for on-going BAU operation. This begins with Design document review followed with scheduling plans for distribution, change approvals, installation of releases, configuring, Monitoring System integration, documentation, training, release acceptance, reviewing deficiencies, analyzing risk & impact for Accepted Risk items, communication and rollout plans.
This role will also be responsible for these aspects of release management:
Technical plans for OAT (Operational Acceptance Testing) and reviewing results
Providing technical oversight for capabilities that can only be integrated in pre-prod and prod environments, such as backup and restore.
Working with technical staff in Pillars and the release team to makes sure operational requirements are being met and tested in environments ahead of pre-production, so there are minimal surprised when releases are implemented in pre-production and production.
Working with Support staff to make sure technical activity is performed to high quality levels and consistent across shift and locations.
2.) Change Management: Ensuring process and technical standards compliance in Change Management by using Change Management tools to build "Forward Schedule of Changes", providing documentation and allocating resources.
The role also includes reviewing 3rd Party & Development owned Changes, attending Change Advisory Board meetings, performing post implementation review, System Deficiency and Accepted Risk Entries review and Assigning of Low Risk & Impact Task (e.g. Patches, Minor, AV etc) to First Level Operations for execution.
3.) Configuration Management: Using Data Centre & Asset Management tool throughout the Product Life Cycle and ensuring accuracy for all Configuration Items in Configuration Management Database. Handling of kit procurement for the entire Life Cycle (Order, Receipt, Install, Commission, De-Commission).
This role will be responsible for the technical quality of the configuration databases.
4.) Capacity Management: Manage capacity by integrating all devices into the Management System (GMI), followed by using tools to analyze for compliance. Proactively reviewing, tuning & modeling for appropriate actions for upgrades and changes that also cover 3rd party Capacity. The focus of this role is to make sure that key KRPs are captured and fed into capacity planning systems.
5.) ITSCM: Providing detailed technical instructions, planning & managing "Power Down", "Service Site Failover Test" & 'Data Restore Tests' which also includes Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans for all Services.
6.) Risk & Control: Planning and scheduling with compliance to ISO 9001, 20000 & 27001.
7.) Financial Management: Providing technical input into budgets to meet Capital & Operational expenditure targets.
8.) Service Management: Practice and comply with all ITIL processes and meeting agreed metrics and also participate in defining and understanding SLA (Service Level Agreement) and Operational Level Agreements with internal and external parties. Ensure time for project resources is punctually and accurately logged into Resource Management Tool.
